Methamphetamine supply in Asia

Seizures of methamphetamine in Asia continue to rise, even as the reported number of dismantled methamphetamine laboratories declines.

  • Methamphetamine seizures in Asia reached a record high in 2024, while the number of dismantled (and reported) methamphetamine laboratories declined to its lowest level in two decades.
  • This decline contrasts with the fact that there are no signs that overall trafficking and use of methamphetamine in the region have declined, most of which remains intra-regional. The trend may reflect shifts in production to countries with weaker law enforcement or gaps in laboratory reporting, even as ongoing trafficking within Asia and exports to Oceania indicate that substantial production capacity remains in place.
  • Most methamphetamine seizures in Asia continue to occur in East and South-East Asia, although the strongest growth has been reported from the Near and Middle East/South-West Asia.
