Cannabis use remains widespread globally, with steady long-term growth.

  • Prevalence of past-year cannabis use is highest in North America, Australia and New Zealand, and West and Central Africa, while North America and South Asia have the highest number of people who use cannabis.
  • Cannabis use has increased globally over the past two decades.
  • Past-year use in the general population aged 15-64 increase from an estimated 3.8 per cent in 2014 to 4.8 per cent in 2024, with the total number of people using the substance in the past year growing by 40 per cent over same period.
