Global cocaine market

The global cocaine market continues to experience strong growth in supply and demand, and organized crime groups continue to funnel continue to funnel increasingly large quantities of cocaine towards established and emerging destination markets.

  • Taking potential cocaine manufacture and seizures into account, the amount of cocaine theoretically available for consumption could have quadrupled between 2015 and 2024. This may also reflect – despite ongoing law enforcement successes – the increasing attempts by organized crime groups to look for new markets around the world. The estimated number of consumers has also grown, albeit more gradually; the comparison raises additional concerns about potential developments such as the emergence of more harmful use patterns and of an expansion of cocaine to new markets and market segments, some of which may be ongoing but as yet not captured in available data.
  • In recent years, seizure quantities in several destination and transit regions have grown even faster than the global trend, suggesting a corresponding increase in the availability of cocaine. This is corroborated by recent decreases in wholesale prices in several key transit countries.
