Most “ecstasy” found in the global market continues to be produced in Western and Central Europe.
- Data suggest that the bulk of the "ecstasy" is still being produced in Europe, with 82 per cent of reported countries of transit or departure of seized shipments around the world being from the region.
- Trafficking is highly inter-regional, with European-produced MDMA reaching all other regions, while movements within Europe remain largely intra-regional.
- The most important country of departure or transit between 2020 and 2024 was the Kingdom of the Netherlands, followed by various other West European countries.
- In terms of the number of dismantled “ecstasy” laboratories, the Kingdom of the Netherlands accounted for 40 per cent of all laboratories dismantled worldwide between 2020 and 2024 – for Europe as a whole the share rises to 62 per cent.
- Major locations of dismantled “ecstasy” laboratories outside of Europe between 2020 and 2024 were found in Australia (Oceania), Malaysia and Indonesia (South-East Asia), and Argentina, Canada and Chile (Americas).
