The use of cannabis continues to grow in almost all regions of the world.
The number of cannabis users has increased worldwide over the past 20 years, particularly in Africa, Asia and the Americas, while remaining relatively stable in Europe and Oceania.
The annual prevalence of cannabis use has also increased over the same period, especially in the Americas. Growth in the number of users thus reflects both population growth and changing consumption patterns.
In Africa (particularly in West and Central Africa), the Caribbean and Oceania, cannabis accounts for a high share of people in drug-related treatment, though some variation among countries exists.
